FACT TUESDAY-Colchester United (A)



Just 4 days to go until the Cobblers travel to Colchester to play the second league away match of the 2018/19 season. Today is Fact Tuesday and we have some facts for you on Saturdays Opponents Colchester United. Please leave your comments bellow.

FACT 1

* Ernie Gaby was a star player for United in the 1880’s. His father, who owned a funeral parlour, stated that he did not want him to play one Saturday, and sent him out as assistant to the Hearse driver, when he was out of sight he stopped the hearse picked up his bag under the seat and made for the game.

FACT 2

* In September 1955 player manager Ted Fenton first gave away a penalty & then conceded an own goal. Some years later he joined Orient as manager.

FACT 3

* After a 2-0 victory v Chesterfield in 1959 one of the Colchester press boys suggested the victory was down to the Chesterfield keeper, who he stated he felt was not going to make it as a regular goalkeeper, the keepers name? Gordon Banks!
