Every Monday for the 2018/19 season we will be remembering an ex-cobbler who has played for us and the opponents of that Saturdays game. We will be showing you their record and their story. We will be asking you for your memories of that player. We will also be asking you to nominate a player for Cobblers Past Ex-Cobbler of the Week.
FACT
Keith Welch was signed at the start of the 1999-200 season and helped the Cobblers back into division two in his first season.
The club struggled to maintain the higher division status but Keith was one of the players who gave a hundred percent and was popular with the fans.
He once saved two penalties in one match v Wrexham. And suffered the indignation of being sent off v Canvey Island in the F.A. Cup defeat.
Keith refused terms for the start of the 2002-03 season and became something of a ‘Wanderer’ playing for different clubs on short-term contracts.
He retired at the end of the 2003 season. Later becoming goalkeeper coach at Chesterfield.
