Aidy Mann is on record as the youngest player ever to play for the Cobblers when he made his debut v Bury in 1984 aged 16 years 297 days. (since beaten)
He became a regular first team under Tony Barton during the 1984-85 season. Although Graham Carr had time for the youngster he brought in so many players that Aidy found himself pushed down the pecking order.
Tony Barton became assistant manager at Southampton and took Aidy on a month’s loan but it came to nothing.
The following season he spent another loan period on the south coast this time at Torquay.
During the 1987-88 he lived out of a suitcase. A spell at Bath was followed by another one at Altrincham under Tommy Docherty finally he agreed to a £1,000 move to Newport.
He did not stay the season before Wycombe paid the Welsh club the same money to help the Buckinghamshire club into the football league.
Aidy wound down his playing career as player manager of Higham Town.
However he did continue to manage local clubs, Higham, Woodford, Cogenhoe and Long Buckby. While working for a scaffolding company.
