INTERVIEW- Gregor Robertson

Ethan from Cobblers Past interviews ex-cobbler Gregor Robertson on his time at the Cobblers and his time after the Cobblers. Also what he is doing now.

What was your favourite moment from your time at Northampton and why?

My favourite moment was staying up on the last day of the season, after beating Oxford, because that was the aim when I had joined in January and we were 6 points adrift from safety. It was a huge relief, and the celebrations weren't bad either!

Who was the craziest player you played with and why?

The craziest player I played with would have to be a guy called Alan Rodgers at Nottingham Forest. He was hilarious, but his jokes could be brutal and even the gaffer wasn't spared!

You where at Chesterfield for many seasons and made many appearances, what’s the best thing about making many appearances for one club?

When you play a lot of games for one club over many seasons, I just think the attachment to the club, the people there and the supporters becomes much stronger. I have some great memories from my time at Chesterfield: winning the League Two title, winning the EFL Trophy at Wembley. And the club also stuck by me through two serious injuries too, so I will always remember my time there fondly.

What’s the one thing that Sticks out from your football career and why?

A few things stick out from my career. One is that you never truly appreciate how good it is to be a professional footballer until it's over. Another is the buzz of a Saturday and winning, especially. And unfortunately the other thing is the things you put your body through to play!

Throughout your career you played at many grounds, what’s been the best one and the best atmosphere?

There are a few grounds that I loved playing at. An evening game at Forest's City Ground was pretty special. I loved old grounds like Portsmouth's Fratton Park and Luton Town's Kenilworth Road, where the crowds are close and the atmosphere crackles. Wembley in front of 50,000 for the National Legaue playoff final was pretty deafening, even if it wasn't full. And I loved playing at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland, because the fans are crazy up there!

What are you up to now after finishing professional football?

Since finishing playing I've become a journalist. I write an EFL-based column for The Times every Monday, a weekly Forest related column for the Nottingham Post, and a regular column for the Football League Paper, among others. I also do some broadcasting for TalkSport and others too. I really enjoy it, but it's impossible to replace that Saturday buzz.
