The Cobblers have signed the former Blackpool, Gillingham, Millwall and Stevenage left sided player Joe Martin on a 2 year contract effective from July 1st.
The 6ft tall left footer can operate at left back, left wing back or left midfield and has played well over 300 games in his career from the Championship to League 2.
Martin began his career with Tottenham Hotspur, making his professional debut with Blackpool. A successful five year spell at Gillingham followed, where he made 179 appearances, including playing 41 times in 2012/13 as the Gills won the League 2 title when he was named in the PFA League 2 Team of the Season.
In 2015, Martin moved on to Millwall where he played 67 times in two seasons, playing and scoring in the 2015/16 League 1 play off semi final victory over Bradford City. 27 of those 67 appearances came in 2016/17 as the Lions went on to win promotion to the Championship via the play offs.
Martin then moved to Stevenage in the summer of 2017, and in two seasons played 50 times, as well as making ten League 1 appearances in a loan spell with Bristol Rovers in late 2018.
