STRIKER ANDY WILLIAMS TO JOIN NORTHAMPTON TOWN FROM JULY 1ST

Northampton Town have signed former Doncaster Rovers striker Andy Williams on a 2 year contract with effect from July 1st. Williams has more than 120 senior career goals to his name after starting out at Hereford United. He netted 21 times for the Bulls, before a three year spell at Bristol Rovers. He scored 25 times in 65 starts in a 2 year stint with Yeovil Town before finding the net 35 times for Swindon Town in a 3 year stay where he started 81 games. He was the third top scorer in League 1 in 2014/15 and he then made the move to Doncaster Rovers, where he scored 29 times in 3 years, being the club's leading scorer with 16 goals in League 1 in 2015/16, then scoring another dozen times in 2016/17, helping Rovers to win promotion from League 2 at the first attempt. "I am delighted to make Andy our first signing of the summer," said manager Dean Austin. "We said that we needed to add more goals to the team, and Andy has a proven record of scoring at both League 1 and League 2 level and not only does he know where the back of the net is, he brings a wealth of experience too. "We also spoke about recruiting characters, and Andy is certainly the right type of character. He is a very good professional, he plays with his heart on his sleeve and he will offer invaluable experience for the young strikers we have in the squad. "He has excellent movement and he is a fine finisher. He also has experience of winning promotion from League 2 recently and that is important. "We had to move quickly to tie this deal up, there was a lot of interest in Andy but we are delighted we have been able to bring him to Sixfields." Williams himself added, "I'm delighted to join Northampton Town. "I've done my homework on both the club and Dean Austin and I am delighted to sign, I am very excited about what next season could bring, "I am fortunate to be joining a really good squad. Hopefully I can help the squad turn things around and bounce back to League 1 straight away as we did at Doncaster a few years ago. "I hope I will bring goals to the team. I like to think I've got good movement, I know where the back of the net is and I am a big believer in not leaving anything out on the pitch. "I had a frustrating season with injury last season with Doncaster but generally I have been really fit throughout my career. I can't wait for pre-season to start so I can put the frustration of last season behind me. I am fully fit and have been for a while and am desperate to get going. "I had a few offers made to me but I was looking for a club that I felt had genuine promotion chances and this move ticked all the boxes for me. After meeting Dean Austin that convinced me this was the right move for me."
