Northampton Town have signed Reading goalkeeper Lewis Ward on a season long loan.
Ward is a 21 year old, 6ft 4in keeper who has come through the Reading Academy, enjoying successful loan spells with various non-league clubs and also in Iceland in recent seasons.
In 2017/18, he made 26 appearances on loan with Aldershot Town in the National League, keeping ten clean sheets and conceding just 22 goals. Having won their January player of the month award, Ward impressed as he helped Aldershot make the National League play offs and saved three penalties, one in normal time and two in the shoot out of their semi final with Ebbsfleet.
"We are really pleased that we have got Lewis on board for the season," said manager Dean Austin.
"He is a great size for a keeper and he did really, really well at Aldershot last season. I have been very impressed whenever I have seen him.
"He also has a fantastic attitude and we believe this is an excellent signing.
"He will work well with the other keepers we have at the club and we are grateful that Reading have trusted us with a player of his ability.
"His form last season did attract the interest of some Premier League clubs and we are delighted to be able to welcome Lewis to the club."
