Cobblers bring in defender for an undisclosed fee
Northampton Town have signed Manchester City defender Shay Facey for an undisclosed fee on an 18 month contract. The 22 year old, 5ft 10in Facey, who has played for England from under 16 to under 20, joined City in 2007 and progressed through their Academy system. During his time at City he was nominated for their under 21 player of the year award. Facey, who can play at right back or centre back, spent a season with City's sister club New York City, joining them on loan in March 2015, and made 24 appearances in the MLS. He made 5 appearances during a loan spell with Championship side Rotherham United in 2016, and most recently appeared for Dutch Eredivisie side SC Heerenveen on loan. "Shay is a very exciting talent," said manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. "He has a lot of pace and is aggressive, they are very welcome attributes, and he will give us flexibility in terms of the systems we can play and the options open to us. "He is comfortable on the ball, he has an excellent pedigree, he has gained experience of first team football in three different countries and he is ready to settle down and to establish himself." The move is subject to Premier League clearance.
