Stevenage 2-3 Northampton

Cobblers Past have a look back at our 3-2 win against Stevenage in our title winning season on Saturday 19th March 2016.

Ricky Holmes' sensational winner completed a brilliant turnaround for Northampton as they came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Stevenage.

Goals either side of half-time from James Collins and John-Joe O'Toole had seen the Cobblers level things up after Luke Wilkinson followed his first goal for Stevenage with a swift second, while Boro defender Fraser Franks was shown a straight red with 11 minutes remaining.

Boro started brightly and deservedly took the lead after 11 minutes when Wilkinson headed home Dean Parrett's corner before the two combined again on the half hour.

Keith Curle boosted by players returning from injury;

“Potentially we could have four players back for Saturday and the changing room is really starting to thrive on that competition, Sam Foley is back out training on the grass as is Shay Facey. Jordan Turnbull was touch and go for last Saturday but unfortunately he just failed a fitness test. Marvin Sordell has finished a course of injections and we will see how he settles down in the next 24 hours but he may be available. George Cox is still being assessed and we are just waiting to hear if he will need to have a course of injections or undergo an operation. His attitude has been first class, he has still been in and around the squad and he wants to be involved and play his part.”

Dino Maamria looks ahead to the Cobblers visit:

“It is a totally different game to last week. Northampton with Keith Curle have turned the corner and they have responded really well to him. I have watched them a few times now, they are solid defensively, they do the basically really well and are compact in the middle of the park. It is going to a huge game for us. We have got seven home games and we have to go on the front-foot every game to try and win. If we win our seven home games, it gives us a brilliant chance of finishing where we want to be.”

Of the previous 9 meetings between the sides, Northampton have only lost to Stevenage once - W6, L1, D2.

Northampton Town have scored in each of their last 9 away league games, winning 3, drawing 3 and losing 3.

This season, Northampton have drawn more matches (15) than Stevenage have either won (14) or lost (13).

The Cobblers have averaged just 1.06 points per game away from home - below the league average of 1.16 - whereas Stevenage have averaged 1.82 points per game at home - above the league average of 1.58.

A 1-1 draw has been Northampton's most frequent result on the road - occuring in 20% of away games.
