Staffordshire official Ollie Yates will be the man with the whistle for this Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash.
Yates is one of the newer referees in the EFL, having been promoted two seasons ago from the National League.
In 32 games this season he has shown 120 Yellow Cards and 5 Red Cards.
Mr Yates will be assisted by Matthew Smith and Graeme Fyvie, and the Fourth Official will be Mark Dwyer.
“We aren’t going to take our foot off the gas, You are never happy because you want to be higher up the table but the only way we can do that is by keep winning games. The squad is looking very good, we haven’t played three games in a week for a while but I’m confident we can cope. The training this week has been exceptional, we train at a very high tempo but we also rest the players as well when we need to. My training methods might be a little bit different to previous regimes but the players have come on board with that. It was a very competitive game against Newport and yes it did lack a bit of quality but the goal from Joe Powell was worthy of winning any game, it was a fantastic controlled finish and it showed the quality he has got. If you divided the division into three leagues a couple of weeks ago we were top of the bottom pile and now we are near the top of the middle.
“We are in the chasing pack and our next aim has to be to get in striking distance of the top seven and we would like to narrow that gap to three or four points. It’s a different mentality being in the chasing pack and as a collective group the atmosphere in the changing room is very good. The squad as a whole is very important and if you look at some of our recent games the players that have come on have won it for us. I like having selection problems, Marvin Sordell trained from Wednesday onwards and he comes back into contention and is available for selection.”
“Three set plays that we need to do better with, so we’re going to try and address that in the time between now and Saturday’s game. And we need to convert more of the good chances we created – I think we had two clear chances to score before Tranmere got their first goal and, in any game, the first goal is important. So converting our chances, and preventing them from scoring, clearly is a focus for us.”
Grimsby will host Northampton for the first time since they beat them 2-0 in an FA Cup second round clash in December 2013.
Northampton are unbeaten in their last six League Two matches against Grimsby (W2 D4) since a 1-0 loss in October 2004.
Grimsby have won eight of their last 11 home league games (L3), however they did lose last time out at Blundell Park (0-2 loss to Cambridge).
Northampton have won their last four league games, they last went on a better run in the Football League under Chris Wilder - winning 10 in a row between December 2015 and February 2016.
Daniel Powell has been directly involved in three of Northampton's last five league goals (1 goal, 2 assists).
With Danny serving a one match ban, Neil and Charles are joined by former Chronicle & Echo Cobblers reporter and current Sky WWE correspondent, Jefferson Lake.
There’s lots of play off dreaming, wonder goal celebration and fan ownership public meeting chat as well as the views on Grimsby’s season so far from Alex Green.
After a week of many highs, the boys discuss both wins over Exeter and Newport and Neil gives us his report from the Supporters Trust’s public meeting into fan ownership.
Of course, the Project: Proud To Be document also gets scrutinized and we have a statement on that provided by Andy Roberts, the Trust chairman.
