PREVIEW- Exeter City

Exeter City Football Club is a professional association football club based in Exeter, Devon, England. The team play in League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. The club is owned by the club's supporters through the Exeter City Supporters' Trust.

The Grecians haven’t been beaten since January on the road, which was a narrow loss at Newport County. Since then City have picked up draws at promotion rivals Carlisle United and Lincoln City and a win over Crewe Alexandra.

The sides last met back in November where they played out a 2-2 draw at St James Park. Jake Taylor found the net on 14 minutes before Billy Waters levelled things. The Grecians took the lead through Jayden Stockley once again just before half-time and as the game hit 90 minutes the Grecians were dealt a blow when a Stockley own goal gave Keith Curle’s side a point in Devon.

His last Cobblers game was on the 14th November 2017 and Scunthorpe 1-0 Northampton during this match he awarded 2 yellow cards.

So far this season he has been the man in the middle for 30 games awarding a total of 96 yellow cards and 4 red cards.

“We’ve got a competitive squad and we are at a stage now where good players are not even making the eighteen, That is a tribute to the players we have available now but it’s good to see the players that have come back from injury have been fit and available to play. The players know that there are no guarantees and just because we win a game that doesn’t mean the team won’t change. We plan how we train in the week to the opposition we are playing at the weekend and every opposition has different strengths and weaknesses. George Cox has seen a specialist in London and from the two options he had they have gone for the shorter option which is good news. He is probably going to spend two weeks back at Brighton now and then he’ll hopefully be back up with us to work on the field based training. He’s not going to be back in the team in two weeks but we are hoping to see him back in and around the group.”

Ahead of the match, manager Matt Taylor said: “They’ve (Northampton) got some good players, a team that we watched a lot at the start of the season, and they were underachieving because they have some seriously good players in that squad. “They’re hitting form at the right time and the manager has got them going, so they’re a good team, a strong team and a physical team who will put a lot of balls into our box. We’re going to have to defend but play our way, and the Exeter City way, and try to hurt the opposition at every opportunity."

  • After losing two consecutive games against Exeter in 2013, Northampton have since gone unbeaten in their last six meetings with them in league competition (W4 D2).

  • Exeter have failed to score in five of their last six league games against Northampton, although they did net twice in this season's reverse fixture (2-2 in November 2018).

  • No side in the top four tiers of English football have drawn more league games in 2018-19 than Northampton Town (15 - level with Aston Villa and Rotherham United), with the Cobblers drawing six of their last eight at home (W1 L1).

  • Exeter have lost only one of their last six away league outings (W3 D2), a 0-1 defeat at Newport County in January.

  • A league-high 10 of Northampton's goals in League Two this season have come from corners, with two of their last five such goals coming from corner situations.

You would have thought Crewe had learnt their lesson at Sixfields but instead, the Alex were ungracious in defeat. So naturally, we call them out on it.

Neil and Danny embrace Charles’ away day antics after he may have gotten over excited due to one little Jagerbomb.

We ask “Is it on?” after 5 undefeated games in a row and Neil contemplates booking his train tickets to Wembley with 11 games of the season remaining.

Hear from Exeter fan, Damien about how the Grecians have done since we last met in November and from Exeter podcast Big Bank Theory. They’ve got a new nickname for Keith Curle and love the colour claret apparently. There’s more postbag chat and a reminder about the Trust’s public meeting on Sunday at 1pm.

REMEMBER IT IS A 2 O'CLOCK KICK OFF.
