That’s testament to the division, you can never relax and you are never going to get an easy game. The line between winning and losing is very marginal and I go back to the Colchester game where on another day that could have finished 4-4 or we could have won 4-2. We know that Crewe can be dangerous on their day but if we perform we can cause them lots of problems in open play and from set pieces. Home or away I want to win games and that’s the attitude we have. At my two previous clubs Carlisle and Notts County we went on long unbeaten runs away from home and I like my teams to be difficult to beat but at the same time I want us to play open and expansive football.”
“Northampton will be a different proposition than Exeter, we know that but they will present a different challenge. They will be at times become more direct than Exeter but they are far than one dimensional. They have some quality and some skill. They have powerful players and physicality to them and we will have to stand up to that. We will have to be braced for that and be ready for those battles. They also pose a threat from set plays and crosses going into the box. We have shown that we can win those type of games. Lincoln tried it and we outplayed them on the day, Stevenage have tried it twice and we came through. Carlisle definitely tried it a couple of weeks ago and we won that one. It is perceived as one of our weakness but I don’t think it is anymore. We have shown that.”
Crewe have only lost one of their last 11 home Football League games against Northampton (W6 D4), a 3-1 defeat in third tier in October 2008.
Northampton are unbeaten in their last four League Two meetings with Crewe (W2 D2), winning the reverse fixture 2-0 in November.
Crewe's 1-2 defeat to Exeter last time out ended their five-game winning streak at home in League Two; they last lost back-to-back home games in the competition in March 2018 - when Exeter were the first of those two defeats, also by a 1-2 scoreline.
Northampton have won as many of their 17 away league games this season (five) than they managed in all 23 such matches in League One last season, including victories in two of their last three such matches (D1).
Northampton boss Keith Curle has won each of his last three managerial games against Crewe in League Two by an aggregate score of 8-0.
After another superb away victory at Stevenage, Neil decides he wants more last minute winners before realising they wouldn’t be that great anymore.
