After a brilliant win on Saturday at the PTS Academy Stadium, when the Cobblers put Newports Unbeaten start to the season to an end. The Cobblers are looking to follow on that success and grab another 3 points at Stevenage.
Head to head
The Cobblers have played Stevenage only 10 times 5 these games coming away for the Cobblers and the Cobblers have won 5 of them.
Here is a look at the Cobblers last visit:
Last 5 AWAY meetings
Heres a look back at the last visit.
Andy Williams came off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner as Northampton beat promotion-chasing Stevenage 2-1.
Loanee Joe Powell had given the Cobblers a first-half lead but Alex Revell appeared to have earned a point for the hosts with a 79th-minute equaliser.
But Williams, a 76th-minute substitute, kept his composure in the first minute of added time to settle the League Two contest.
The visitors took the lead after pouncing on Luther James-Wildin's mistake in the 19th minute. Forward Sam Hoskins won the ball deep in the Stevenage half before finding Powell, who slotted into the net.
The Cobblers could have added a second as Hoskins found space on the edge of the area but he curled his effort just wide of the far-right post.
Boro pressed for an equaliser, with James-Wildin's cross causing problems for goalkeeper David Cornell before Northampton cleared their lines.
The home side eventually got their equaliser as the impressive Ilias Chair saw his free-kick headed in at the back post by Revell.
But Williams had the final say when he nicked the ball off Michael Timlin and drove at goal before chipping past keeper Paul Farman.
Last time out
Northampton ended Newport's unbeaten start to the League Two season with a 2-0 victory.
The Exiles sat second ahead of kick-off but were out-of-sorts at Sixfields and goals from Andy Williams and Sam Hoskins either side of half-time condemned them to defeat. Newport conceded their first goal since the opening day of the season just five minutes in when Jordan Turnbull's shot was blocked and the ball fell to Williams, whose effort was sliced into the net by defender Mark O'Brien.
Hoskins headed at Tom King as the home side pushed for a second, while Newport's best chance of the first half fell to Joss Labadie, who nodded over. O'Brien nearly diverted into his own net after half-time but Northampton did have a second with 18 minutes to go as Charlie Goode slipped in Chris Lines who squared to Hoskins and he was left with a simple tap-in. Newport's day went from bad to worse in the final minute when Jamille Matt picked up two bookings in a matter of moments and was sent off.
Harry McKirdy's double guided Carlisle to a courageous 3-2 comeback win away to Stevenage.
The former Aston Villa midfielder scored an 83rd-minute winner as the Cumbrians claimed their first away win over Borough for nearly three years. Kurtis Guthrie impressed and put the hosts ahead in the 25th minute, but McKirdy equalised 13 minutes later. Sheffield United loanee Nathan Thomas put Carlisle ahead for the first time soon after the break, but Guthrie equalised two minutes later.
There was still a sting in the tale of this entertaining clash when McKirdy claimed his third goal of the season to turn the match on its head. Guthrie gave the hosts the perfect start when he rifled home into the bottom corner with a sweet right-footed strike. McKirdy levelled with a clinical finish as the Cumbrians beat the offside trap, before Thomas bagged his second of the campaign. Guthrie secured his brace with an excellent header, but it was McKirdy's afternoon as he denied Borough their first win of the season with a late winner.
Team News
Officials
James Heneghan of the Northampton Chronicle & Echo previews Tuesdays game;
What kind of game do you expect on Tuesday?
"I expect it to be a closely fought encounter. Cobblers tend to struggle in games where the onus is on them to attack and create chances and I don't think it'll be a particularly open, entertaining contest. Inconsistency has also plagued Northampton over the past couple of seasons so it wouldn't be a shock if they slipped up at the Lamex."
What's the team news going into Tuesday's game?
"Cobblers have quite a lengthy injury list at present. Long-term absentee Alan McCormack (hamstring) might return to the bench, but Ryan Watson (broken collarbone), Reece Hall-Johnson and Steve Arnold (hamstring) remain out while Shaun McWilliams was taken off with a problem against Newport so he too might miss out."
Prediction and goalscorers?
"I will go with a 2-1 win for the Cobblers, with Andy Williams and Nicky Adams grabbing the goals."
