Cobblers have signed West Ham United midfielder Joe Powell on loan for the rest of the season.

Northampton Town have signed West Ham United midfielder Joe Powell on loan for the rest of the season. 20 year old Powell made his Hammers debut in this season's 8-0 Carabao Cup win over Macclesfield Town and following that game was named on the substitute's bench for West Ham's Premier League game against Leicester City in October as well as their Carabao Cup fourth round tie with Tottenham Hotspur. A creative, attacking player, Powell has played over 50 games for the West Ham United under 23 side, scoring seven times in 12 appearances this season. "Joe is a talented creative midfield player," said manager Keith Curle. "He likes to play in the oppostion half of the field, he likes to get on the ball to open up defences and to create things. "Joe has a fantastic attitude, a hunger to do well and he is excited by the challenge of regular league football and doing well for us. "I have watched Joe develop over the last year or so, I have tried to sign him before but he wasn't available. "We are pleased we have been able to bring him in now, there was interest in him from other clubs but we are really pleased that he will be spending the rest of the season with us."
