Northampton Town have signed left back Joe Bunney from Rochdale for an undisclosed fee. After making one appearance as a trainee for Stockport County in 2012, and after a spell with Northwich Victoria, the 6ft 2in, 24 year old Bunney moved to Rochdale in 2013 and made 145 appearances in four and a half years at the Crown Oils Arena, scoring 17 goals. Bunney began his career as a striker, but was converted to a left back in September 2016 and has excelled in that position, attracting interest from Championship clubs and earning a reputation as a fine attacking full back who can create chances going forward. "Joe has been outstanding for Rochdale, and he is a player we are delighted to bring to the club," said manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. "He can operate anywhere down the left hand side and his versatility is very useful. However, we feel his best position is as a left back and not only can be defend well, he is an attacking threat from the full back position. "Joe is a mobile player with pace and I am sure he will fit well into the squad. We feel he is another player who is a good age and who will continue to develop and improve and be an excellent signing for the club not just for now but as we look to the future too." Bunney has signed a two and a half year contract at Sixfields.
