Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has called on his players to find greater consistency as he previews Saturday’s trip to Portsmouth.
Excellent performances against Walsall and Blackburn were followed up by a loss at Doncaster on Boxing Day, and the Cobblers boss wants his players to return to the levels of the Walsall and Blackburn performances.
“We’ve got some difficult matches ahead of us and we need to regroup and try and find some consistency in our performances,” he said.
“We played very well in the games against Walsall and Blackburn and we wanted to keep that momentum going against Doncaster but we were flat and the intensity just wasn’t there.
“I’m trying to put my finger on why that was and maybe it’s psychological. We need to stop thinking we are there after two good performances. Every match you have to start again.
“Against Doncaster we didn’t play how I know we can and how I want us to. We want to find that consistency and we need to get back to the high intensity we showed against Walsall and Blackburn.”
