Former Luton Town midfielder becomes latest new addition

Defensive midfielder Alan McCormack has become Keith Curle’s latest signing for Northampton Town, putting pen to paper on a one year contract, effective from July 1st.

The experienced former Preston North End, Southend United, Charlton Athletic, Swindon Town, Brentford and Luton Town man arrives at the PTS Academy Stadium having helped the Hatters to back to back promotions over the last two years, making 39 appearances as Luton Town rose from League 2 to the Championship.

An immensely popular figure at Kenilworth Road, McCormack was also highly thought of at Brentford, where in 2014 he helped the Bees reach the Championship, being named the Brentford player of the season and also being named in the League 1 team of the season.

Those honours were achieved in more than a century of appearances for the Bees, while he also achieved a promotion and player of the season award at Swindon Town, helping the Robins to the League 2 title in 2012, before captaining them to the League 1 play offs the following season.

McCormack, who is known as a tough tackling no-nonsense player, is a defensive midfielder but has also played in the centre of defence and at right back.
