BIG MATCH PREVIEW- Carlisle United (H)

All you need to know ahead of today's game vs Carlisle United. The Cobblers have a visit from Carlisle United in Sky Bet League Two match.

Appointed this past summer after the four-year tenure of Keith Curle came to an end, Sheridan will be looking to return to Sky Bet League One with Carlisle and end their five-year stay in Sky Bet League Two.

He's certainly started the season in good form, with his side occupying 11th place, just five points off a play-off position. Sheridan recruited a number of faces during the Summer, with Anthony Gerrard following the Manager from Oldham Athletic, while George Glendon arrived from Fleetwood and Gary Miller from Plymouth Argyle.

The man to watch for Carlisle is Jamie Devitt, he's netted five times in his last five games - form that saw him nominated for Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month for November.

The sides have met a total of 41 times over the years, with Northampton slightly edging it in terms of victories.

Our last meeting was at the start of this season when the teams played out a 2-2 draw. Jamie Devitt gave the Blues the lead with a stunning strike on the half hour, but Kevin van Veen pulled things level just before the break. Matt Crooks put the visitors ahead midway through the second half, but the lead lasted just 60 seconds as Hallam Hope struck back in the very next attack.

“I know a lot of the squad at Carlisle and we will certainly set up to try and beat them,” he said.

“They have got some good players who are playing with a lot of confidence at the moment but, just like any team in this division, they are beatable.

“It will be a good challenge for us and that’s been the message to the players.

“There were positives on Tuesday night and there were elements of what we are trying to do but we are still in a transitional period and I’m still trying different personnel in different systems."

On injured trio Andy Williams, Ash Taylor and John-Joe O’Toole, Curle added:

“Andy and Ash are both good characters and if there is an opportunity for them to be involved they

will be out there.

“We will assess them both and then make a decision from there.

“John-Joe is getting closer, Saturday might be too soon for him to start a game and we owe it to the players to give them the best opportunity to perform.”

New loan signing George Cox is available for selection.

Speaking ahead of the game, joint caretaker boss Paul Murray said: "There's obviously added interest with Keith having been with us last season, and with our manager situation as it is now.

"To be honest, that's outside the club, and it doesn't really affect us. We have a job to do and we'll be going down there to do just that.

"Confidence is high at the moment, but we know that Keith has got his team galvanised and playing really well. They're very hard to beat, and we know they'll be looking to turn draws into wins so that they can get on with climbing the table.

"As usual we'll respect the opposition, but we'll go there looking to play our game as well. We've seen what we can achieve when we all do our jobs and we all want to keep this run going for as long as we possibly can.

"We've got ourselves into a great position, but we've achieved nothing yet. We know there's a lot of work still to do."
